Sharks Trade Setoguchi

I have to eat humble pie on this one. I said I'd re-sign Setoguchi for a limited contract. This time, I should have paid attention to the Pros.

Devin Setoguchi was traded to the Minnesota Wild for Brent Burns, a defensemen. Yes, that definately is an area where the Sharks are lacking.

Here is the official news release from the SHarks site:

The 26-year-old Burns set career highs with 17 goals, 29 assists and 46 points in 2010-11. He was also a member of the 2010-11 Western Conference All-Star Team. Burns was originally chosen by the Wild in the first round, 20th overall, of the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Burns made his NHL debut with the Wild in 2003-04. In 453 games, Burns has 55 goals and 128 assists for 183 points. He also has 325 penalty minutes, including a career-high 98 this season.

Besides acquiring Burns, the Sharks also received a second round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In exchange, the Wild acquired forward Devin Setoguchi, prospect center Charlie Coyle and San Jose’s first round (28th overall) pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

As predicted, Jeff Skinner won the Rookie of the Year over Logan Couture. That's all right Logan, Lord Stanley's Cup has a space waiting for your name. Bring our Sharks bring it home next season.

Only 105 until the puck drops on October 8th, 2011 for game one of the 20-11-2012 season.

I'm excited about it, aren't you?

Go Sharks!!!
